Introduced in 1927, the Bugatti Type 43 was hyped as the world's first 100mph (160kph) production cars; this was at a time when 70 mph (112 kph) was a more typical top speed for a road vehicle. The could accelerate to 60 mph (96 kph) in about 12 secs. The arrival of the Type 43 that helped confirm Bugatti as one of Europe's top car manufacturers. Only 160 of the Type 43, which was essentially a supercar hybrid, were ever built, from its launch in 1927.
